TESTIMONIALS
“I feel obliged and profoundly moved by the excitement that enlivens
the small city on the bank of the Danube that has organised, at
great pains but with great love, this music competition. It is open
to both the classical instruments of the orchestra and the
traditional instruments that we are never tired of listening to,
heart and soul, while rendering sorrowful or lively songs.
The contestants are children of all ages, coming form music schools all over the country. More often than not, we take pride in hosting contestants from faraway countries, and so the number of competitors reaches the incredible figure of 300. Days of great endeavor for our tireless and well-known professors of all music specialties. You cannot but commit yourself to it body and soul, your heart pounding, vibrating alongside each of the artists imparting their talent to you, carrying you on the wings of fancy, so that you can envisage them receiving standing ovations on various stages of the world, while revealing the Romanian artistic soul in its plenitude.
Hoping that it will be possible for me to attend the contests to come, I thank from the bottom of my heart to all music lovers that properly honour the memory of maestro George Georgescu, who had passionately devoted his vim to his own country.”

“As regards the general impression about the Contest, I can mention, first and foremost, the overwhelming emotion that we, his family, underwent, due to the moving memories I have of my father and, secondly, the rendering verging on perfection of highly complex musical pieces by children virtuosi, who devoted themselves, heart and soul, to music. You can only leave this place with eyes filled with tears of joy for these children.”
Mrs. Ioana Georgescu-Ratiu, daughter of the great musician
“This Gala is a living proof of the high value of the contestants and the professionalism with which the jurors appointed for each section evaluated the young musicians’ performances. The organisation of the Contest — in keeping with the tradition — benefited from a highly experienced technical staff, which had perfected its skills along the 13 previous contests. “George Georgescu” is, according to our knowledge, the most enduring event of its kind in the country. I wish it good luck and ever more valuable contests in the future.”
Professor Vasile Ţugui, 2006
“Three days of overwhelming emotion, three days that have weighed as much as three weeks for those who endeavoured to prove that what they had studied with their teachers, back in the schools that they had chosen to cultivate their talent and prepare their future career as great performers and teachers, whom the country needs so much, was not in vain. It has indeed been proven that Romania has huge resources, that valuable soloists have come out of this school, singers and instrumentalists who enjoyed great success within the country and abroad.
Yes, music resounded in its wonderful melody and its chords caused the Danube to quiver in its millenary bed. The city of Tulcea has lived, as it does every year, exceptional moments, having turned into a capital city of music, with people humming at all times fragments from the pieces performed at the contest. (…) The National Contest for Young Performers “George Georgescu”, Tulcea, fell out as a great celebration. The sounds unleashed in a dithyrambic dance, filling the city with sonatas, concerts, concertante pieces composed by well-known artists along the centuries.”
Professor Gheorghe Zamfir
“I have had the privilege of being a member of the jury for the piano section of the “George Georgescu” Contest ever since 1996. Back then, the organisers were striving to have the contest recognised as one of the best in the country, setting high standards with regard to both contestants and performances.
Year after year, I found that this contest attained its goal of hosting valuable competitors that would act as role models for the music school of Tulcea, while becoming one of the strongest competitions organised in Romania.
On account of its high standards, the contest opened to foreign contestants as well.
The support granted, since 2006, by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research is a confirmation of the importance of this event and also a recognition of the constant efforts made by the admirable teachers from the Arts High School of Tulcea.
